I remember my first black head. I was probably seven or eight and my Mom let me use one of her pore strips to get it out. I thought it was cool then, 20 years later and I’m REALLY OVER IT. Did anyone else think they would ONLY have acne as a teenager? Like the second you turn 20 and drop the teen, all the pimples would just vanish off your face (and body) forever? To my unpleasant surprise, I was wrong. On top of that, over the last couple of years, I think my acne has actually continued to get WORSE.
Let me also start off by saying that my consistent breakouts are not nearly as extreme as some and I have learned to be very good at covering it up with makeup so many likely wouldn’t even think this is an issue for me. However, personally, I have never felt like my skin felt clean and clear the way that it does now. So I’m sharing what I have learned over the last month about my skin and my breakouts and what products are working for me!
Rodan and Fields Unblemish Regimen + Active Hydration Serum
This stuff is some type of miracle-working magic. I have never used an acne treatment line that does not dry out my skin but actively works to clear current breakouts and keep my skin balanced to reduce new ones. I look forward to using my Unblemish Regimen every day because I can see the results and my skin looks better EVERY single day as I have continued the process. I add the Active Hydration serum in after toner to make sure I’m keeping my skin extra moisturized through the colder season. This is great for ALL skin types but if you do experience any dryness this is the product you need!
Yesterday was the first day in as long as I can remember that I left the house with ZERO makeup on and felt like my skin looked good. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been willing to leave the house with no makeup on because I try to let my skin breathe on weekends as much as possible but it was always in the back of my mind wondering if people were looking at my breakouts. I even picked up a carryout order and was mistaken for a highschooler, immediately I thought it had to be because they could see my breakouts. Not anymore honeyyyy.
I’m sharing my own before and after of only TWO WEEKS below! The picture on the left shows a face with multiple deep, painful breakouts with new pimples surfacing almost every day. The face on the right shows healing, flat, smooth, clean skin with no new breakouts. Yes, I still have healing and redness going on. But I see improvement every day! I will continue to share my 60-day progress again when I complete the system for full results as well.
I have tried many spot treatments, I have recently been sticking to a few that I think really works in combination with the rest of my routine. Making sure to apply them directly to any existing breakouts and not all over the skin, I have been seeing painful breakouts heal super quickly! I typically apply a spot treatment directly to the pimple and let it sit overnight to let the healing process really do its thing. When I apply at night I wake up with a smaller breakout and less redness.
I am just completing a month of Whole 30 and I LOVE this detox plan. I’ve participated in Whole 30 multiple times before and it feels like a no-brainer that when you feed yourself better on the inside, the outside looks better as well, but my skin really shows this to be true. Avoiding things like grain, sugar and dairy have shown a significant difference in many areas of my life but the overall brightness of my skin is one of my favorites. Check your diet and try eliminating commonly problematic foods to see how your diet is affecting your skin!
You can learn more about the specifics of Whole 30 and how to participate yourself here.
Check in on yourself! Your body sends you signs when things aren’t right – tune in and listen! I recently made a major life change and moved back to the Detroit area from New York City. Although it was a hard decision, it has reduced stressors I didn’t even realize were there and seriously affecting my day to day life. Practice selfcare, check your surroundings and make sure your skin isn’t a reflection of things you’re ignoring internally. Sleep, drink water, exercise, BREATHE, take care of yo self!!
